Health in the Context of Socio-Ecological Change

Description

The working group examines the interplay between environmental change, urban public health, and societal change within the context of socio-ecological transformation. To this end, the working group combines salutogenic public health approaches with critical social theory to understand health as an integral component of urban climate, sustainability, and transformation policies.

The focus is on current human-environment relationships and the associated patterns of production and consumption that (re)produce socio-ecological crises as well as global and intra-societal inequalities, and that are stabilized by structural mechanisms of externalization and normalization.

In doing so, the working group focuses on the social and political conditions that shape environmental and health dynamics and manifest themselves in conflicts over resources and healthy living environments.
